Welcome Baby Maddox

We were at the hospital by 9 am and thought we'd have a few minutes to sit down and visit but the nurse came in and called Daniel & I back almost as soon as we walked in. That left the family to occupy Addie until the big arrival. Luckily, I had stashed away some goodies for her- here Aunt Piglet & Gigi are helping her unwrap her very own baby diaper bag with all the essentials!
A little Papaw and Mamaw time...
A very calm but excited mommy waiting to be taken to the OR. Daniel and I watched a little ESPN and a little Cash Cab while we chatted with the nurses and waited. It was really surreal feeling Maddox kicking and knowing I would meet him in less than an hour or so. When I was wheeled into the OR, Daniel had to wait outside until I was prepped. This was the hardest part for me, although the nurses and doctors were wonderful. There was a random song playing on the radio- some oldies rock song that I could sing along to but can't remember now. Once they got me all medicated adn the sheet was up, Daniel came in. By this time I was really really tired and I felt like I couldn't breathe (probably b/c of the spinal). Daniel was so great- he held my hand and told me how good I was doing and that I was breathing fine. I listened to Dr. Miyasaki talk to the resident who was assisting him- telling her what he was doing or what she should be doing- that was also kind of surreal. Then I felt a lot of pressure and they told Daniel to stand up and watch, which he did. Once Maddox was born, I felt so much pressure lift- I could breathe again! But he didn't cry immediately and there were a few seconds where my mind was racing and I was asking Daniel if he was okay? Then I heard him cry- but it was totally different than Addie. It was quieter, almost muted, although you could tell he was really mad. I still hadn't seen him yet and the doctors and all the nurses were commenting on how big he was- "He's huge!" "What a big baby!" "I can't wait to see how much he weighs!" "He's definately over 8 lbs!" Then finally, they brought him around the curtain and I got to see him!
Gross. I mean really. It's not like the movies where they are all clean and stuff. And look at the size of that monster foot! Oh but I love him! And then he peed on all the nurses. And sure enough....
He was over 8 lbs! Good grief- that came from me?! I commented to the dr. that I was glad we chose the repeat c section and he laughed and told me that this was the only way a baby that big was coming out of me. Daniel got to cut the cord and they stamped his big ole feet on some paper for me. Meanwhile I couldn't keep my eyes open- I was soooo tired.
Welcome baby Maddox! Born 8/21/09 @ 10:27 8lbs 7 oz 21" long
I got this same picture with Addie but man what a difference!! Here I'm not swollen and worn out (although tired). And now to meet the family!
The waiting is the hardest part!

I was so excited to see what Addie would think of her new baby brother! Everyone was waiting for us right outside the OR and we made a pit stop before heading to recovery.

But instead of checking out her baby brother (a quick "Hi baby" was all), Addie said "Daddy take that hat off you look silly" "Mommy that hat is funny"

Waiting for Maddox to return from the nursery. Daniel's a pretty patient guy but not today. There was a shift change and for whatever reason our baby didn't make it to our room for 4 hours...I thought Daniel was going to come to fistacuffs with a few nurses. Meanwhile, the medicine made me really sick...Ronnie, my dad, and Daniel were the only one's in the room at the time (everyone else was at the nursery window oooing and awing over baby). If I hadn't been so sick I would have laughed at how quickly those guys ran to get help- they were bumping into eachother trying to help me. Then mom and Piglet came in and all was well.
After her nap, Addie was brought back to the hospital to meet baby brother, again. This time her enthusiasm was contagious. She wanted to hold him and when the nurse came in to check on us, she told the nurse "No you not hold him, that's my baby brother." Sweet big sister!!

The first shot of the family of four!

Good looking family!

Maddox was a super sleepy baby- and it was hard to get him to wake up at all. We did have some brief face time. This was really special b/c he was just looking at his big sister- checking her out.
After going to church with Tia and Uncle Mule, Addie came to the hospital for the ceremonial going home! We were so excited to put everyone in the car and start our lives as a family of four!
